Why Use a UPS with Your CCTV Security System?

A CCTV surveillance system depends on continuous electrical power to record and store security footage.

During a power outage, an unprotected NVR or DVR may shut down immediately, interrupting recording and potentially leaving your property without active video surveillance.

The Hikvision DS-UPS1000-R-AU UPS Battery Backup helps protect your security system by supplying temporary battery power when the mains electricity supply fails.

This can provide valuable additional recording time during short outages and help protect sensitive recording equipment from sudden power interruptions.

Suitable Applications

• Hikvision and HiLook PoE NVR security systems

• Swann, IVSEC and other compatible CCTV recorders

• CCTV DVR and NVR recording equipment

• PoE network switches and IP security cameras

• Internet routers and NBN networking equipment

• Desktop computers and office workstations

• Small business security and networking installations

• Home security and surveillance systems

Important: For a PoE CCTV installation to continue recording during a power outage, the NVR and any separate PoE switches supplying the cameras must be connected to battery-backed UPS outlets.

Estimated UPS Battery Backup Runtime

The Hikvision DS-UPS1000-R-AU provides temporary battery backup, with operating time depending on the total electrical load connected to the UPS.

For example, a CCTV system consisting of an NVR, multiple PoE cameras and a network switch will generally consume more power than a standalone recorder.

Actual backup runtime depends on:

• Total connected power consumption in watts

• Number and power requirements of connected CCTV cameras

• NVR and hard drive power consumption

• Battery age and condition

• Operating temperature and battery charge level

Please Note: The 1000VA / 600W rating indicates the UPS power capacity, not the number of hours it will operate during a power outage.

For the most accurate backup time estimate, calculate the combined wattage of all equipment connected to the UPS.

Technical Specifications

Ideal Battery Backup for Hikvision and HiLook CCTV Systems

The DS-UPS1000-R-AU is particularly suitable for smaller CCTV installations where reliable power protection is important.

When connected to compatible equipment within its power rating, the UPS can help maintain operation of the NVR and associated security cameras during short power interruptions.

The UPS is not limited to Hikvision equipment and can also be used with compatible security and networking products from other manufacturers.
